In this video, I demonstrate how to perform manual muscle testing of knee extension.
I start by showing the patient what I want them to do and on the unaffected limb first, moving to the affected limb side. I communicate each stage of the muscle testing with the patient clearly and I end the session by explaining why we did that and how we are going to use this information moving forward.
In the video, the patient had a level 5 on the Oxford Scale as she was able to perform the full range of motion against gravity with maximal resistance on her left leg however, her right leg showed only a level 4 on the Oxford Scale as she was able to get full range of motion against gravity and less than maximal force.
